When it snows, it’s play time! Newport took full advantage of the winter weather. The Chicago Tribune heralded this as the “snowiest storm in five years.” While other schools shut down or turned to remote learning, Newport invited students to bring their snow gear to school for an exciting trip to our playground.

On Sunday night, an email went out to parents, after the city received 10.8 inches in a thirty-hour period! Students aged 15 months and up were invited to bring snow boots and pants, mittens, hats and any other warm gear. Every classroom got to spend 20-30 minutes outside playing in the fresh snow.

This was the second “snow day” of the 2020/2021 School year. Students also played outside in the snow on the previous Wednesday, 1/27, after a small storm dropped about five inches on the city. Check out all the fun pictures posted to Newport’s social media.
