The National Education Association has marked March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, to celebrate and bring awareness to reading. Here at Newport, we took a week…
Crazy socks, silly hats, and wacky wardrobe were just some of the ways we celebrated. Along with a lot of reading…
Parents came into our school all week to read books to their children’s classes. And they listened to some stories too, during family reading night.
Dr. Seuss is an especially important literary figure because he wrote and published so many original books (sixty) that manage to be entertaining, educational, and inspirational all at once. He never insulted the intelligence of his young audience. “A person’s a person no matter how small.” His wisdom and ethics leave much to remember him by. To help promote literacy and pay his legacy forward we had a week-long book drive.
Show and Share
“Show & Share” is an important part of the preschool experience. And it has been especially fun this month! We brought animal ‘pets’ for veterinarian week, awesome accessories, and tools for adventure. Showing and telling helps students build receptive and expressive language skills. It gives teachers a chance to demonstrate interest in every child. We build larger vocabularies and our phonetic awareness is improved when we talk about the items we are sharing with our friends!
