Room to Run

unnamed (1)

Our indoor play space opened up in May, but we are really appreciating it now with the winter weather headed our way. Our teachers have found lots of new ways to engage our bodies and encourage new skills. Students love navigating obstacle courses, practicing yoga, and running as fast as they can. Our Pre-K classes really enjoy playing  “What time is it, Mr. Fox?” a game that combines counting and math skills with physical activity. Other classes have been working on their tennis skills and some friends are even learning to use stilts! We can’t wait to see what new fun ways we find to learn and get moving as the weather gets colder.

Caring For Our Community

unnamed (6)

During the month of November, Newport collected non-perishable food items for donation to a local food bank. Our generous families helped to donate hundreds of dollars worth of sustenance to Lakeview Food Pantry. Hard-working students, parents, and staff came together to make 300 bagged lunches during our “Lunches for the Hungry” event.  We made sandwiches, bagged carrots, and packed fruit, chips and water in brown paper bags to be delivered to those in need. It was a fantastic way for kids to learn about altruism and actively help others.

Officer Friendly Visits

Officer Friendly came to visit Newport during community helpers week. The week was dedicated to learning about the people who work hard to make our neighborhood cleaner, safer, and better. Who better than a police officer to teach us how to stay safe in our community? Officer Castro told us about his job, reviewed how to call for help by dialing 9-1-1, and taught us to yell “1,2,3, Stranger Danger” if we ever feel threatened or are approached by someone we don’t know. It was a wonderful way to meet a real community helper!
